Prayer
We know from scripture that prayer changes things. We generally gather once a fortnight to worship and pray for a whole range of things: we've prayed for revival, for things God is doing around the world (particularly those we as a church are involved with), for kids work, for individual needs.
As well as this, prayer is going on in small groups, in other 'gatherings of 2 and 3' and personal prayer undergirds the whole.
We read In James 5:16b "The prayer of a righteous man is powerful and effective", and James then goes on to illustrate from the life of Elijah and how powerful his prayers were. But James tells us Elijah was a man just like us: that's amazing! How is Elijah like us? He wasn't perfect, he panicked and fled, he got depressed. Just like us.
But we are people who know the amazing God of creation - just like Elijah did. Through Jesus we are declared righteous and have access to God so we too can believe and see that our prayers are powerful and effective.
Let's keep making space in our day for prayer: as Charles Spurgeon said 'the more we do in this life, the more we should pray.
